Kyojuro Rengoku is one of the most beloved characters of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is one the major supporting characters and also a major protagonist of the Mugen Train Arc. He was a part of the Demon Slayer Corps, an organization working towards saving mankind from demons.

Kyojuro was one of the highest-ranking and most proficient demon slayers. Holding his title as the Flame Hashira, he is well-known for his mastery of fire-based techniques. His fighting technique focuses on using flames both defensively and offensively, making him a strong opponent against demons. Rengoku’s flame-breathing techniques enable him to create and manipulate fire with extreme precision and force.

Unlike the other members of the Demon Slayer Corps, Rengoku’s life was not directly affected by demons, but his family had fabricated demons for generations. With his sense of duty, Rengoku took it upon himself to protect the innocent from demons and liberate humanity.

Mugen Train Arc:

The protagonist of the show, Tanjiro Kamado, along with his partners Inosuke Hashibira and Zenitsu Agatsuma board the Mugen Train to investigate the bizarre disappearances occurring aboard. There, they come across Kyojuro Rengoku who is also investigating the disappearances. 

The Mugen Train, also known as the Infinity Train, is revealed to be a hunting field for Enmu, a powerful demon who utilizes his powers to imprison individuals in their dreams and feed on their spiritual energy. Kyojuro, Tanjiro and the rest successfully defeat Enmu by going cart to cart, slashing away at Enmu and protecting the passengers on board. 

Outside the destroyed Mugen Train, Kyojuro is faced by Upper Rank Three Akaza who absolutely despises humans for being weak. With Kyojuro telling Akaza that humanity has more beauty to itself than strength, the battle between the two continues. Akaza leaves a gashing wound across Kyojuro’s stomach resulting in him losing a huge amount of blood. Before finally taking his last breath, Rengoku sees his mother, Ruka, who tells him that she was proud of what he did, and he passes away with a smile on his face.

Rengoku is a character dearly adored by fans of the show. With his death being so harsh and unforeseen, not only does he have a positive personality, but he is also the epitome of what a demon slayer and a good human should be. Even when he was lying mortally injured, he praised Tanjiro and wished him luck.

Wholeheartedly embracing his role as a demon slayer and the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro is portrayed to have an immensely passionate and determined personality. He is deeply committed to his roles and duties, going as far as giving his own life up to protect humanity.
